1. Which bond links the glucose units of cellulose?
A. beta-1,4 glycosidic bond
Cellulose is a linear polymer of glucose joined by beta-1,4 bonds, which no vertebrate enzyme can hydrolyse. Alpha-1,4 bonds are found in starch and glycogen chains, alpha-1,6 at their branch points, and alpha-1,2 links glucose and fructose in sucrose.
