1. A cheese lexicon is valuable mainly because it:

  1. It lists cheese prices by region and season for retailers

2. A well-aged hard cheese crumbles under a small compression, while a young cheese of the same type deforms a long way before breaking. In fracture terms, the aged cheese has:

  1. A higher fracture strain
  2. A lower fracture strain
  3. A higher yield stress in tension only
  4. No measurable fracture point
Answer and working

B. A lower fracture strain

A short, crumbly body breaks at small deformation, which is a low fracture strain; proteolysis and lower moisture during ageing cause this. A higher fracture strain describes the long, elastic young cheese; the aged cheese clearly fractures.

3. Under the TRIPS Agreement, the stronger additional protection of Article 23 applies to geographical indications for:

  1. All agricultural products including cheese
  2. Wines and spirits only
  3. Cheeses and wines only
  4. Products registered in the EU only
Answer and working

B. Wines and spirits only

Article 23 gives additional protection only to wines and spirits. Other products, including cheese, get the general protection of Article 22 against misleading use. Extending Article 23 to other goods is a long-running dispute.
