Over the years

ICAR-NDRI's official B.Tech page (read 3 Oct 2026) says B.Tech Dairy Technology admission is 'on the basis of the merit in the combined examination (CUET) and counselling conducted by the ICAR': 10+2 with PCM or PCB, 50% aggregate (40% SC/ST/PH), age 16–23. The same route fills the ICAR quota at other state agricultural and veterinary universities that teach dairy technology; their state seats use state entrance exams (see india-state-cet-dairy). The subject-test combination was not re-checked for 2026.

Five practice questions, worked

Original questions written to this exam's published syllabus and pattern. Not past papers.

1. Which species produces the largest share of the world's milk?

  1. Cattle, at about four-fifths of world output
  2. Sheep, because of the large Mediterranean cheese industry
  3. Water buffalo, at roughly half of world output
  4. Goats, because they are kept in more countries than any other dairy species
Answer and working

A. Cattle, at about four-fifths of world output

FAO statistics put cattle at roughly four-fifths of world milk. Buffalo come second with around a seventh, concentrated in South Asia; goats and sheep each give only a few per cent despite being widespread.

2. What is the determinant of the 2 by 2 matrix with rows (4, 3) and (2, 5)?

  1. 26
  2. 22
  3. 14
  4. 7
Answer and working

C. 14

det = ad − bc = 4×5 − 3×2 = 20 − 6 = 14. Adding the products (20 + 6 = 26) is the commonest slip.

3. A solution has a hydrogen-ion concentration of 1 × 10⁻⁵ mol/L. What is its pH?

  1. 9
  2. −5
  3. 10⁻⁵
  4. 5
Answer and working

D. 5

pH = −log[H⁺] = −log(10⁻⁵) = 5. pH 9 would be the pOH-type slip (14 − 5).

4. Who disproved spontaneous generation with swan-necked flasks of boiled broth?

  1. Louis Pasteur
  2. Robert Koch
  3. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek
  4. Joseph Lister
Answer and working

A. Louis Pasteur

Pasteur's flasks stayed sterile while the curved neck trapped dust and spoiled once it was broken. Koch proved specific organisms cause specific diseases.

5. A drawing made to a scale of 1:50 shows a tank diameter of 3.2 m written on it. The real diameter is:

  1. 3.2 m
  2. 160 m
  3. 6.4 cm
  4. 64 mm
Answer and working

A. 3.2 m

Written dimensions always give real size whatever the scale. 6.4 cm is what the drawn line would measure; scaling off prints is bad practice.
