Sections

Over the years

B.Tech Food Technology / Food Process Engineering seats at NITs and at the national food technology institutes (NIFTEM Kundli and NIFTEM Thanjavur) are understood to be filled through JEE Main and JoSAA/CSAB; confirm on each institute's admission page. Many state universities use state engineering entrance tests instead.

Five practice questions, worked

Original questions written to this exam's published syllabus and pattern. Not past papers.

1. What is the determinant of the matrix [[3, 2], [5, 4]]?

  1. 7
  2. 22
  3. 2
  4. −2
Answer and working

C. 2

det = ad − bc = 3·4 − 2·5 = 12 − 10 = 2. 22 adds the products instead of subtracting; −2 subtracts them in the wrong order (bc − ad); 7 is the trace.

2. Across a period of the periodic table from left to right, how does atomic radius change?

  1. It increases
  2. It first increases, then decreases
  3. It decreases
  4. It stays the same
Answer and working

C. It decreases

Nuclear charge rises across a period while electrons enter the same shell, so they are pulled closer and the radius decreases. Radius increases down a group, as new shells are added.
