This track covers environmental science and sustainability as they apply to agriculture and food systems: climate science, conservation of soil, water and biodiversity, pollution control, agroecology, and the professional tools of the field (EIA, life-cycle assessment, carbon accounting, carbon markets, circular economy and sustainability reporting). It goes deeper than the environment subjects that already sit in the Agribusiness, Veterinary and Agricultural Engineering tracks and points to them instead of repeating them. Its exam map is built from the published syllabi of GATE ES, ICAR AIEEA-PG and AICE-JRF/SRF, UGC NET, NCEES FE/PE Environmental, GARP SCR and others, each row carrying its source and a note on how firmly it was verified. Sustainability frameworks, carbon-market rules and disclosure standards change every year; the manuals say which version they describe. Laisha's questions are original practice written to those syllabi and patterns; they are not past papers.

Exams worldwide

Every row names the page or document it was taken from. 'verified' means the official page or document was opened and read on 2026-10-03, and the notes say exactly which details came from it; 'unverified' means the row was built from general knowledge because the web-search budget for this build was exhausted or the official page could not be reached, and the sourceUrl is then the body's home page, not a specific syllabus. Do not quote format, fees or dates from an unverified row without checking the official source. Sustainability credentials are young and change names and owners often (IEMA became ISEP; the ISSP credentials moved to GBCI; the CFA ESG certificate became the Sustainable Investing Certificate); the notes record what was seen. Where a country has no written environmental-science exam, the row says so rather than inventing one.

What comes up year after year

The career, stage by stage

A sustainability and environment graduate's work changes shape over a career: from passing semesters and entrance, NET or licensing exams, to running monitoring programmes, EIA studies, carbon inventories and farm sustainability projects, to heading environment functions, regulators and certification schemes, to setting the research agenda, sitting on national and IPCC-style panels and writing the exams. This guide describes each stage as product analysis — what the work usually involves and where it hurts — not as a claim about any particular employer. No salaries or market sizes are given because none were verified. Where Laisha can help today it says so; anything not built yet is marked 'coming'.

Student — BSc / MSc Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture, Agroecology or Climate Change

An undergraduate or master's student in environmental science, sustainable agriculture, agroecology, natural resource management or climate change and agriculture — in an Indian agricultural or UGC university, a US land-grant university, a European or Australian sustainability programme, or a Brazilian Gestão Ambiental or Agroecologia course — and the graduate preparing for GATE ES, ICAR AIEEA-PG or AICE, UGC NET, the NCEES FE, a civil-service exam, or a first professional credential.

Five years in — environmental officer, EIA or carbon analyst, sustainability or agroecology project lead

About five years after graduating: a scientist or assistant engineer at a pollution control board or environment ministry; an EIA or environmental consultant; a carbon or LCA analyst; a sustainability officer in an agri-food company or certification body; a project lead in an NGO, FAO or CGIAR programme; or a research associate after an MSc.

Twenty-five years in — head of environment or sustainability, regulator, senior consultant

About 25 years of experience: chief sustainability officer or head of environment in an agri-food or input company; member secretary or director in an environment regulator or ministry; partner in an environmental consultancy; senior official in FAO, UNEP, a development bank or a national adaptation or carbon-market authority; lead of a certification scheme.

PhD with twenty-five years — professor, principal scientist, panel author

A professor of environmental science, agrometeorology or agroecology; a principal scientist in ICAR, a CGIAR centre or a national research institute; an IPCC or IPBES author; or a member of national expert committees — with a PhD and about 25 years of teaching, research and advisory work.
