If you see: A dark, sunken, leathery patch develops at the blossom end of the fruit, the end opposite the stem, with no fungal growth or insect damage visible at the site.

It likely means: Aphids, small sap-feeding insects that weaken young growth directly and can spread some real plant viruses of their own while feeding.
