1 · Purpose and history of working plans · easy

The main purpose of a working plan is to:

  2. Secure continuity of policy and action in managing a forest
  3. List the timber merchants licensed to buy produce from the division each year
  4. Fix the boundaries of reserved forests under the forest settlement procedure
Answer and working

  1. One year, renewed every season
  2. Fifty years, matching a rotation
  3. Three years, matching a budget cycle
  4. Ten years

D. Ten years

Indian working plans normally run for ten years, with a mid-term review.

3 · Division of the forest: working circles, felling series, compartments · medium

An overlapping working circle is constituted for:

  1. An area claimed by two forest divisions whose boundary is disputed
  2. Compartments that are to be clear felled twice within the same rotation
  3. A resource that occurs across other working circles, such as bamboo or NTFPs
  4. Forests on the border between two states, managed jointly by both state departments

4 · Stock mapping and growing-stock assessment · medium

A patch of forest has a canopy density of 35%. Under the Forest Survey of India classes it is:

  1. Moderately dense forest
  2. Very dense forest
  3. Open forest
  4. Scrub
Answer and working

C. Open forest

Open forest covers 10% to under 40% canopy density; 35% falls in it.

5 · Stock mapping and growing-stock assessment · hard

The results of growing-stock enumeration are presented in a working plan mainly as:

  1. A list of compartments ranked by distance from the divisional office
  2. Photographs of the largest trees in each compartment
  3. A single figure for the whole state's forest
  4. Stand and stock tables by species and diameter class
Answer and working

D. Stand and stock tables by species and diameter class

Stand tables give numbers and stock tables volumes by species and diameter class, for each working circle and felling series.
