How does a feasibility study differ from a business plan for a proposed goat or dairy enterprise?
A. The feasibility study asks whether to proceed; the plan sets out how to run and fund it
Feasibility examines market, technical, financial, organisational and environmental viability to answer 'should we do this?'. The business plan, or project report, then lays out operations, management and financing. Feasibility is not finance-only and comes before, not after, sanction.
A broiler shed runs 42-day batches followed by 14 days of cleaning and rest. How many complete batches fit in a year?
A. 6
One cycle = 42 + 14 = 56 days; 365 ÷ 56 = 6.5, so 6 complete batches. Ignoring down time gives 365 ÷ 42 = 8.7, i.e. 8; rounding 6.5 up to 7 overstates output; counting the 14-day rest both before and after each batch gives 365 ÷ 70 = 5.2, i.e. 5.
In a goat flock projection, why must home-bred replacement females be subtracted before calculating income from kid sales?
B. They stay in the flock to replace culled does and earn no sale income that year
Retained females are kept to maintain flock size; counting them as sold overstates income. They are not sold at a premium in this calculation, given to the lender or slaughtered at home.
How does a front-ended subsidy differ from a back-ended subsidy?
D. It cuts the loan or project cost at the start rather than at the end
A front-ended subsidy lowers the amount borrowed from the outset; a back-ended one is held and adjusted against the final instalments. Neither definition depends on the type of beneficiary, and neither is a repayable loan.
What is a matching grant in livestock development programmes?
D. A grant paid only if the entrepreneur funds a set share of the investment
Matching grants pay part of an investment on condition that the recipient pays the rest, which tests commitment. They are not joint-application rules, interest matches or loss cover.
What does the term 'livestock value chain' describe?
C. All activities and actors from inputs to final consumer, with flows of product, money and information
A value chain covers input supply, production, processing, distribution and retail, with the relationships among actors. Transport, one cooperative or one retail price are parts of it.
A dairy cooperative deducts loan instalments from members' fortnightly milk payments on behalf of a bank. This is an example of:
A. Value-chain finance
Value-chain finance uses relationships inside the chain to link repayment to observed product sales. Venture capital buys equity; crowdfunding raises money from many people; a matching grant is a conditional grant.
In Danhof's classification, a dairy farmer who adopts a new practice only when continuing the old one would clearly cause losses is a:
A. Fabian entrepreneur
Fabian entrepreneurs are cautious and change only under pressure of loss. Innovators introduce change first; imitators copy proven innovations readily; drones refuse to change even at a loss.
In the lean start-up method, what is a minimum viable product?
D. The simplest version of the offer that tests key assumptions with real customers
An MVP exists to learn quickly through the build-measure-learn loop. It is not the cheapest final product, a sales quota or a company form.
Which is NOT one of the nine building blocks of the business model canvas?
D. Competitor profiles
The nine blocks are customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships and cost structure. Competitor analysis belongs elsewhere in planning.
